Lighting the Gas Safety Pilot

Fireplaces & Things, Inc. has been notified that you are experiencing difficulty in lighting your pilot. We have written this letter so that you can assist us in identifying the cause and possible solution to your situation. This will also eliminate the need for unnecessary and costly service calls.

Your fireplace system complies with the rigorous specifications of BOCA, UL and the manufacturer. The standing pilot system on your unit is basic to most in the heating industry; it can allow heating even during electrical power outages.

CHECK TO ENSURE THE GAS IS CONNECTED.

Begin by walking the entire gas line from your main line all the way up to the fireplace. IF the heating and cooling contractor has performed work on your furnace, or if you have recently purchased other gas appliances, the other service technicians may have shut off gas further up the line from your fireplace. Be sure to valves are parallel to the gas line. IF the valves are perpendicular to the gas line, turn them to the ON position. There may be a special key valve shut-off located either in the floor or wall next to the fireplace. This can be turned on using the gas key. Turn the key in a counter clockwise direction to turn the gas on; turn clockwise to turn the gas off.
